SUMMARY:A New Report: Nevada's Outdoor Recreation Economy and COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:The Outdoor Recreation Economy in Nevada is an essential part of the state’s economic health\, as the industry supports 59\,500 jobs in the state\, and contributes $5.5 billion per year in economic activity. 60% of Nevadan’s participate in outdoor recreation each year. \nIn fall 2020\, the Nevada Outdoor Business Coalition and Get Outdoors Nevada partnered with BBC Research in Denver to help determine how the pandemic was affecting the Outdoor Recreation Economy in Nevada. \nThe result was a study that contains extensive social and economic data on outdoor businesses and public land visitation\, and how patterns of use and economic activity have changed since the pandemic began. More than just data\, this study features in depth interviews with 16 Nevada businesses\, and offers recommendations for leaders and legislatures on how to support outdoor businesses and the lands they use. \nJoin Rachel Bergren\, Get Outdoors Nevada Executive Director\, Brina Marcus and TIm Healion\, Nevada Outdoor Business Coalition members and business owners\, Colin Robertson\, Director of the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation\, and Michael Verdone\, study author with BBC Research\, in this 45 minute virtual event as we explore the study’s insights and recommendations. \nThis study has not yet been released to the general public\, but participants of this virtual event will receive copies of the report. \nThis event will take place over zoom\, and participants will receive a zoom link the day of the event with details. This will be sent to the email you used to register. \nPlease contact GON at 702-997-3350 with questions.

SUMMARY:24th Annual Lake Tahoe Summit: Resilient Tahoe
DESCRIPTION:While we look forward each summer to coming together at Lake Tahoe to restate our commitment to preserving this important national treasure\, it is unfortunately not safe or responsible to have such a large gathering this year. Like many Americans\, we are adapting and I am pleased to invite you to join me in the first-ever virtual and 24th annual Lake Tahoe Summit on August 25\, 2020. \nThe theme for this year’s Summit is “Resilient Tahoe” reflecting the legacy of 50 years of bi-state cooperation through the interstate compact and 24 years of bipartisan collaboration at the Summit while looking ahead to future environmental\, infrastructure and economic challenges. Summit guests will hear from Nevada and California Congress Members and Governors and others who support funding for the Environmental Improvement Program at the Basin. More information will be available soon on the Summit’s keynote speaker. \nI appreciate your willingness to adapt and join me in continuing the legacy of the Tahoe Summit even during these unusual circumstances. And I look forward to when we can come together again at this treasured place that we all work so hard to protect. You can register for the Summit here or call my office for more information at (775) 686-5750. \nU.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto \n\nKeynote Speaker\n\n\nNevada native David Wise is an American freestyle skier. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a four-time X Games Gold Medalist. In 2014\, Wise won his third consecutive gold medal at X Games XVIII in Aspen\, Colorado\, before heading to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics. In 2018\,  Wise won his fourth gold medal at the X Games just before he left for PyeongChang to defend his Olympic title. After a sub-par qualifying competition that placed him in the fifth drop-in position for the finals\, Wise failed to complete each of his first two runs due\, in both cases\, to a binding malfunction. On his third and final run\, Wise completed a career-best run to take the gold medal\, the second Olympic gold medal of his career\, with a score of 97.20.
