Letter from the Director
Dear NVOBC members and NV outdoor community,
It has been BUSY over here for the NVOBC, and I feel confident y’all are busy, too! From conferences, to events, to project meetings, our calendars are full over here.
However, with all these events come some great collaborations. So while a lot has been happening behind the scenes, rest assured that we will have some fantastic announcements coming soon for our business community! One of those is teased down below…
Read on to see what exciting things are happening in the Nevada OREC community, and RSVP for our upcoming event!
Sincerely,
Mandi Elliott

Member Spotlight
This month’s member spotlight is Rachel Novak of Aquanauts Freediving!
Aquanauts Freediving brings a unique recreation opportunity to Nevada with courses on freediving, mermaiding, and diving certifications. While freediving sits squarely within the Outdoor Recreation Economy, it also offers a wide range of benefits outside of recreation including: health and fitness, stress management, artistic inspiration, and exploration opportunities.
In addition to being the owner of a crazy cool OREC business, Rachel was recently crowned Scuba Queen USA, asked to commentate for the CMAS Freediving Depth World Championship in Greece, and will be traveling all over the world for various freediving engagements. On top of all that, she is a PharmD!
If you’re feeling brave and want to try something new, head over to Aquanauts and sign up for an introductory class!

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES: Nevada Adventure Centers
Back in 2022, Travel NV was awarded a highly competitive EDA grant to fund the creation of two Adventure Centers: physical hubs filled with outdoor recreation businesses and located in areas rich with recreation opportunities.
If you’d like to see the renderings for these centers, click here: https://spaces.hightail.com/space/790NuXAvyR
In some very exciting news, Travel NV has partnered with the NVOBC to identify potential vendors who will fill out the Adventure Centers. We are working together to schedule a few informational events, develop the tenant application process, and engage the outdoor business community.
If you are interested in having your business inside the Boulder City or Carson City Adventure Center, email mandi@nvobc.org and stay tuned for an informational meeting in January!
Local News
Ely’s Betting on Biking
Ely is already on the radar as an emerging outdoor recreation community, and they are leaning hard into that brand.
In partnership with the Great Basin Trails Alliance, Ely is investing $12 million to build 50 miles of single track trails, turning Ely into a must-visit destination for mountain bikers all over the world.
In addition to building the trails, Ely’s goal is to eradicate the need for cars once you pull into town. Trails will connect “superhubs”: the Aquatic Center, Broadbent Park, and the Northern Nevada Railway, for recreators to find food, bathrooms, water, and even entertainment.
The NVOBC is excited for and proud of our Board President, Kyle Horvath, and all the incredible work he has done for White Pine County and Ely. Way to go, Kyle!
